How we manufacture newsprint

Our Mill

Founded in 1996, our mill ranks amongst the top newsprint manufacturing facilities in the world. It is among the pioneers in the application of the latest technology in recycled fibre pulping techniques and produces newsprint from 100% recycled fibre. The mill produces a staggering 1.5km of newsprint every minute, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year! Annual output is 280,000 tonnes of newsprint.

Old Newspapers and magazines
More than 330,000 metric tonnes per annum of old newspapers and old magazines are required to be recycled into newsprint."

Power
Power is supplied from the national grid. In addition, MNI uses the latest eco-friendly and state-of-the-art technology combined hear and power plant to produce electricity and steam, allowing the mill to produce high quality and cost-effective newsprint.

Water
MNI uses 14 megalitres of water each day. MNI is proud that our strict environmental controls and procedures ensure that the water used flows back to the river without upsetting the fragile river ecology. In fact, a 5-day retention pond in which local fish species are reared is living proof of our clean effluent.

People
MNI has invested millions of Ringgit into the training of team members to ensure a high standard of performance and safety standards that are on par with any of the more established mills in the world.
The mill employs more than 300 people directly and works closely with local contractors that service the mill.
